Hyderabad. The victory of the BJP in the assembly elections in four of the five states has not only helped Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s plan to form an anti-BJP front at the national level may be affected, but also his plan to score a hat-trick in the state. Political observers believe the results may force the TRS chief to rework his plans to bring regional parties together on a common platform to develop a national alternative. When elections were underway in Uttar Pradesh and other states, KCR was busy visiting various places in the country to meet leaders and discuss his views of an alternative in national politics. To play a key role in the efforts to bring together a new formation, he visited Mumbai and met Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar. KCR also went to Delhi, where he met BJP MP Subramanian Swamy and farmer leader Rakesh Singh Tikait. He also went to Ranchi and held talks with his Jharkhand counterpart Hemant Soren.
Though the election results are seen as a setback for KCR’s renewed attempt to form an alternative front, TRS leaders do not agree with the view. He claims that the election results were not unexpected for him. One of the TRS leaders recalled that KCR himself had predicted a victory for the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, albeit with a lesser majority. To a question at a press conference on February 1, KCR did not agree that assembly elections in five states are semi-finals ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He pointed out that only two of these states (Uttar Pradesh and Punjab) were large states. A few days later, in another press conference, KCR had indicated a major change in his stance towards the Congress. He called upon all the forces to unite to oust the BJP from power, saying the country would be ruined if it remained in power.
With the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) coming to power in Punjab and Arvind Kejriwal emerging as a prominent leader at the national level, political analysts say KCR may have to rework his strategy for the national front. . Analysts believe that the results of the five state elections have created an opportunity for regional political parties to drive a national agenda. The Congress has been further cut back and this will give more room for regional parties to lead.
Buoyed by victory in UP and other states, BJP is preparing to go on the offensive against KCR in Telangana. Party president Bandi Sanjay has already expressed confidence of winning 80 seats in the 119-member Telangana Assembly. Since these victories, the BJP is projecting itself as the only viable alternative to the TRS. The Congress party, which was the main opposition party till the 2018 assembly elections, has suffered another major setback with the results of the elections held in five states.(-AnyTV News)
