Maruti Suzuki’s 7-seater car Ertiga has always been the leader in the MPV segment, now this car has made another record in its name, the company has sold more than 7 lakh units so far.
Maruti Suzuki first introduced the Maruti Ertiga in the Indian market in April 2012. After about nine and a half (9) years, this MPV has reached this stage. This is the first car in its segment to have touched this sales figure. According to data from Autocar Professional, from launch to the end of October, the Ertiga has sold a total of 6,99,215 units, which is just 785 less than the 700,000-unit mark that was completed in the first few days of November. The best annual sales of this MPV came in the financial year 2020 (2019-2020), during which the company has sold 90,543 units. An average of 8,146 units have been sold between April and October this year. It is clear from this that this figure will soon reach 1 lakh units in this financial year.
In the month of October last, the company has sold a total of 12,923 units of this MPV car, which is 67% more than just 7,748 units in the month of October last year. Not only this, along with being the top of the car segment, it has also become the third most sold car in the country.
How is this car?
The Maruti Ertiga comes in the market with a total of four variants, which cost between Rs 7.96 lakh to Rs 10.69 lakh. The company has used the K15 Smart Hybrid petrol engine of 1.5 liters capacity in it. Which generates power of 103bhp and torque of 138Nm. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual and automatic torque converter transmission. Its CNG variant generates power of 91bhp and torque of 122Nm.
Get these special features:
The company has given features like projector headlamps, fog lamps, LED tail lamps, 15-inch wheels, 7-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and CarPlay and push-button start/stop in this MPV. Apart from this, the Ertiga also gets ventilated front cup holder, rear AC vents with auto climate control and a reverse parking camera. Its petrol variant gives a mileage of 17 km and CNG variant 26 kmpl.
CNG variants increased demand:
This 7-seater car comes with a petrol engine as well as a company fitted CNG kit. The CNG model has contributed a lot to its total sales ever since it was introduced in the market. Earlier this car was also present in the diesel variant, which has now been discontinued. According to Autocar’s report, 3,44,174 units of its diesel variant, 2,97,285 units of the petrol model and 57,756 units of the CNG variant have been sold so far.
If we talk about the current petrol and CNG variants, about 40% of the total sales have been sold in CNG variants alone. You can guess the demand for its CNG variant from the fact that the waiting period of this variant has reached 8 to 9 months in some cities of the country. Let us tell you that the Ertiga is the only car in the current MPV segment in the country to get the option of CNG, and this is probably the main reason for its popularity.
