new Delhi . A Ugandan national has been arrested for smuggling heroin worth Rs 5.9 crore at the IGI airport here. A customs official said the man was detained on suspicion at the airport on March 17. Later, 843 grams of heroin was recovered from him.
He was trying to smuggle heroin in capsule form.
“After being kept under medical observation, he took out a total of 85 capsules,” the customs officer said.
The officer said that the person had violated the provisions of Section 8 of the NDPS Act, and committed an offense punishable under Section 21, Section 23 and Section 29 of the Act.
The customs officials later produced him in the court and filed a petition requesting the court to send him to judicial custody.
After hearing his arguments, the court sent him to judicial custody. He was later lodged in Tihar Jail.
The official said that further investigation is on in the matter.
