Summary
Tension continues to rise globally after Russia’s attack on Ukraine. After showing constant aggression from Russia, America has now issued important instructions for its citizens present in Russia.
Taking a big step in the wake of Ukraine crisis, America has directed American citizens present in Russia to leave the country immediately. In addition, the United States on Monday suspended operations at its embassy in Minsk, Belarus, and allowed voluntary departure of non-emergency staff and families in Moscow. The US State Department’s move came soon after an official said Belarus would face consequences if it continued to aid and promote Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.
Russia-Ukraine meeting on the Belarus border
A meeting between the representatives of Ukraine and Russia just took place on the fifth day of the border war in Belarus. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky initially refused to hold peace talks in Belarus. He was convinced that this country is the basis of Russia’s aggression.
Blinken said, the steps taken in view of the security situation
Foreign Minister Antony Blinken said that we have taken these steps due to the situation and security issues arising out of the unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces in Ukraine. Meanwhile, amid the ongoing fighting around the suburbs of Kyiv and the major cities of Kharkiv and Chernihiv, Zelensky said the day would be crucial for Ukraine’s fate.
Unprecedented sanctions were imposed on Russia, banning its banks, companies and individuals. This has caused the ruble to fall and the central bank has been forced to impose capital controls to quell investor panic and stabilize the economy.
