The Ministry of External Affairs gave information about this meeting to the media on Thursday. The Quad leaders will also review the implementation of the initiatives taken as per the agenda of the organization. The four leaders had taken initiatives in the past regarding the contemporary and positive agenda of the Quad. Earlier in September 2021, the Quad leaders met in person in Washington.
What is a quad and why did it need to be made?
After the tsunami in the Indian Ocean, India, Japan, Australia and the US formed an informal alliance to support disaster relief efforts. Broadly speaking, the Quad is an organization of four countries and includes India, America, Australia and Japan. These four countries are the biggest economic powers of the world. In 2007, the then Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, formalized this as the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, or Quad.
In 2017, the four countries revived the Quad, broadening its objectives as China’s threat escalated. Under this, a mechanism was created which aims to gradually establish a rules-based international order and at its center is China. These four countries want to control China’s growing grandeur and its influence in the Asia-Pacific region. Especially Japan and India took the initiative to make quads.
When America and Australia engaged in the siege of China joined it, it emerged as a powerful regional organization. This organization continued to strengthen its group with the intention of encircling China, which was constantly trying to increase its influence in the Asia-Pacific region. It is believed that in the coming time, this group can emerge as a powerful grouping of Asia-Pacific on the lines of NATO.
