He said that on Thursday, he contacted the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister PK Mishra and conveyed his concern to him. The Principal Secretary said that Fatima’s phone number was also given to Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. Fatima has now come out of Ukraine. The Chief Justice appreciated the efforts made by the Attorney General by taking personal interest in the matter. He said that we thank you very much from the bottom of our heart. The bench is hearing two writ petitions related to the evacuation of Indians stranded in Ukraine. The next hearing will be on March 11.
Russo-Ukraine war unfortunate, can be resolved through dialogue
Initially, the Chief Justice termed the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia as unfortunate. He said conflicts can be resolved through dialogue. It is unfortunate that we have not learned a lesson from history. Mankind is fighting a war and killing people. We have no right on these issues, but our concern is how to save these students.
Center said, 7000 students are still trapped in Ukraine
The bench sought to know from Venugopal how many students are still stuck in Ukraine. In response, Venugopal said that according to the information till morning, around 7000 students are there and 17,000 have been evacuated. During the hearing, the Attorney General said that a petition has been filed in the Rajasthan High Court regarding this issue and now many such petitions will be filed. Taking into account the concerns of the Attorney General, the Chief Justice orally said that you can inform your lawyers present in the State High Court that once the Supreme Court is hearing the issue, such a petition by the High Court There is no point in considering and giving instructions.
Reprimanded the lawyer, said – do not take advantage of the situation for publicity
The bench reprimanded advocate Vishal Tiwari for filing the PIL only on the basis of media reports. The bench said that we find from the websites of the Supreme Court that you file such petitions. Many have been dismissed with fines. If you want to do something then this method of filing petition on the basis of paper cutting etc. is not right. To this, Tiwari said that he was concerned about the citizens trapped in Kharkiv, not far from Romania. Though the bench told him that you know this is a sensitive situation, we cannot say anything. Do not try to take advantage of the situation to preach.
