Chandigarh. 1991 batch IAS officer A. Venu Prasad was on Saturday appointed as the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Punjab. He has been the CMD of Punjab State Power Corp Ltd for a long time and is currently posted as Additional Chief Secretary (Excise & Taxation).
Punjab’s nominated Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met Governor Banwarilal Purohit at the Raj Bhavan here and staked claim to form the Aam Aadmi Party government.
He is set to take oath as the 17th Chief Minister of Punjab on March 16 at 12.30 pm at Khatkar Kalan, the native village of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district.

Addressing the media outside the Raj Bhavan, Mann said, “We have submitted the letter of support of all the newly elected MLAs of Aam Aadmi Party to the Governor and staked claim to form the next government in Punjab, which he has accepted. “
“We also informed the Governor about the venue and time of the swearing-in ceremony. I have invited all the people of Punjab to come to Khatkar Kalan for this historic occasion. Not only us and our ministers, all the people on 16th March People of Punjab will take oath to make Punjab prosperous again. Together we will make Punjab prosperous.”
In his instructions to the newly-elected party MLAs, Mann asked them to spend maximum time in their constituencies, not in the capital Chandigarh or yearning for a cabinet berth.
Mann was quoted as saying after being elected the leader of the AAP legislature party, “We have to work for all the places where we went to seek votes. All MLAs should work in the areas from where they were elected.” Have gone, not just stay in Chandigarh.”
