Expansion
The Indian team has been announced for the three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka. The team led by Rohit Sharma does not have wicketkeepers Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli. Both these players have been rested from the bio bubble for 10. Both these batsmen used to play in the middle order, but the opening batsmen have been given a chance in their place. In such a situation, it will be difficult for Rohit to make the right team combination. He himself batted at number four in the third T20 against West Indies and was a flop.
In the series against Sri Lanka, once again the middle order can become a problem for Rohit, as there are no batsmen like Virat and Pant in the team. However, the superb form of Suryakumar and Venkatesh is a relief for them.
Five opening batsmen in the team
There are five players in the Indian team who have done well while opening the innings in T20. These include Rituraj Gaikwad, captain Rohit Sharma, Venkatesh Iyer, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson. These five players have opened in Team-20 and most of these players are set to play in the Indian team as well. In such a situation, it will be difficult for Rohit to choose the right team.
The team includes nine bowlers
India’s 18-man team includes nine bowlers. This includes six fast bowlers and three wrist spinners. It is difficult for all these players to get a chance together. However, the bowling will not be a concern for Rohit as all the bowlers are in good rhythm and ready to put up a great performance when given the opportunity.
What will be the playing XI?
If Rohit himself bats at number three or number four, his own performance may suffer. Against the West Indies, Rohit had landed at number four and struggled to score runs. At the same time, he was sent at number three in the T20 World Cup and here too he was dismissed cheaply. In such a situation, Rohit would not like to tamper with his batting order.
Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan can open the innings, but Ishan’s performance in the series against West Indies was very poor. Rohit will have to think before giving him another chance. When Ishaan gets a chance, Rituraj Gaikwad will have to sit out, who hasn’t got many chances. On the other hand, Sanju Samson can be fed at number three, Suryakumar Yadav at number four and Shreyas Iyer at number five. Venkatesh Iyer at number six and Jadeja at number seven can be fed. After this three fast bowlers and one spin bowler can be fed.
