Country’s leading automaker Tata Motors will launch CNG models of its popular car Tiago and Tigor in India on January 19. The company is currently the largest selling car maker in India with the Tigor EV, Xpres-T EV, and Nexon EV in its lineup. But now, the company is all set to expand its range of clean vehicles by foraying into the CNG segment in India.
Tata Motors has announced that it will launch its CNG lineup in India this month. In case you forgot, both these upcoming Tata CNG cars are available for booking in India from a few days back. However, many dealerships started accepting bookings for these models from December 2021.
These changes will be available with the same engine
Both the Tata Tiago CNG and the Tigor CNG have been the talk of the market for a long time, and test mules of both the cars have been spotted several times in India. The Tata Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG will be based on their petrol versions, which will be powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that is capable of producing 85 bhp power along with 113 Nm of peak torque.

At the same time, the CNG models of these vehicles will use this engine. While the regular Tiago and Tigor get the option of AMT and manual transmission as a gearbox, their CNG variants will only come with a 5-speed manual transmission.
These already existing cars in the segment
When launched in India, the Tata Tigor CNG will have only one direct competitor and that is the Hyundai Aura CNG. However, with Maruti planning to launch the DZire CNG variant in India this year, the competition will be tighter than before. On the other hand, the CNG model of the company’s hatchback Tata Tiago will face the Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS CNG, Maruti Suzuki WagonR CNG, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG.
