New Delhi. The Supreme Court has expressed displeasure over the decision of the Governor of Tamil Nadu to refuse to administer the oath of office to Ponmudi as a minister. The Government of Tamil Nadu had reached the Supreme Court against this decision of the Governor. After which the Governor of the state had to face strong displeasure from the Supreme Court today. The Supreme Court clearly said that it is seriously concerned about the behavior of the Governor. Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said that we do not want to speak openly in this court, but they are disobeying the Supreme Court. Their advisors are not giving them the right advice.
The Supreme Court said that now explain to the Governor that if the Supreme Court stays the conviction in any case, it means that the conviction has been stayed. The case will also be heard tomorrow i.e. Friday. In fact, in this matter, the Tamil Nadu government has filed a petition against the Governor in the Supreme Court. According to the petition, the Supreme Court has stayed the conviction of Ponmudi. After which the Chief Minister of the state wrote a letter to the Governor to get him sworn in as a minister.
However, the Governor has refused to administer the oath to Ponmudi and said that it would not be constitutionally ethical for him to administer the oath to this person. During the hearing on Thursday, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said that we can have a different view for any minister or person. But we have to follow the Constitution only. If the Supreme Court has put a stay on conviction, then how can the Governor refuse to administer the oath of office to anyone as a minister despite the recommendation of the Chief Minister.
