Washington: The court has given 5 years of rigorous imprisonment to a 40-year-old Indian citizen who wanted to earn money in America. He has been found guilty of selling banned substances on the Indian ‘Dark Web Marketplace’, after which the court has sentenced him to five years imprisonment. An order has been given to seize approximately 15 crore US dollars from it. Let us tell you that Dark Web is that part of the Internet which cannot be reached by common search engines and can be accessed only through a special web browser.
Banmeet Singh of Haldwani was arrested in London in April 2019 on the request of the US. He was extradited to the US in March 2023. He pleaded guilty in January to charges of conspiracy to smuggle prohibited substances and money laundering. A prohibited substance is usually a drug or chemical whose manufacture and use is controlled by the government. According to court documents and statements made in court, Banmeet created seller marketing sites on dark web marketplaces including Silk Road, Alpha Bay, Hansa and many others to sell controlled substances such as Fentanyl, LSD, Ecstasy, Xanax, Ketamine and Tramadol.
Used to take payment through crypto currency
This person, who sold banned items on the dark web marketplace, used to take crypto currency from customers. Customers paid for medicines ordered from Singh using these sites through cryptocurrencies. Singh then personally arranged for the shipment of drugs to be delivered from Europe to the US through the US Mail or other shipping services. An official said that Banmeet earned about 150 million US dollars through this work. (Language)
