New Delhi. At present there is heavy traffic around the Parliament House. There is a traffic jam here in the morning and evening, but you will be surprised to know that at one time trains used to go in front of the Parliament House. It was operated not just once but continuously for many years. But later it was closed. The track is still lying near the Connaught Plate. Come, know the whole story here-
Deepak Kumar, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway, says that red and sandstone have been used in the construction of Parliament House, Rashtrapati Bhavan and North and South Block in Raisina Hills. These stones were brought from Rajasthan. The construction of Parliament started in 1921. There was no New Delhi station at that time. These stones were brought to Raisina Hills from Old Delhi. This was taking a lot of time.
Red and sandstone used in the construction of Parliament House, Rashtrapati Bhavan and North and South Block were transported in Raisina Hills.
The then officials decided to transport the stones to Raisina Hills by train. For this, a railway track was laid from Sadar Bazaar (Old Delhi trains used to pass through here) to Raisina Hills.
This track was built till the front of the Parliament House via the existing New Delhi station, Connaught Place. The train used to go till the front of the Parliament House and return from there. After the construction work, it was decided to remove this track. Because This track used to go through Connaught Place. At that time Connaught Place was not built.
One track from New Delhi station goes towards the estate entry road and just before the outer circle of Connaught Plate. This railway track can be seen right next to the Public Relations Office of Northern Railway. Many engines come here and return from the outer wall of Connaught Place.
