Aligarh. A woman is being discussed a lot across the country. Her name is Naima Khatoon. Naima Khatoon is in the news because she has been made the Vice Chancellor of the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University i.e. AMU. For the first time in the last 100 years of history of AMU, a woman has been appointed to the post of Vice Chancellor. Earlier in 1920, Begum Sultan Jahan of the Nawab family of Bhopal was made the Vice Chancellor of AMU.
Naima Khatoon has been made the Vice Chancellor of AMU for 5 years. She is the Principal of Women’s College of Aligarh University. Her husband Mohammad Gulrez is the acting Vice Chancellor of AMU. Naima Khatoon has studied from AMU only. He did his PhD in Psychology from AMU. She became a lecturer in the psychology department in the year 1988. Then in 2006, she got the post of professor and then in 2014, Naima Khatoon was made the Principal of Women’s College of Aligarh University. Now she will remain on the post of Vice Chancellor for the next 5 years. Naima Khatoon is highly appreciated among the students. He did many things for the benefit of the students. Students are happy with the appointment of Naima Khatoon to the post of Vice Chancellor.
AMU was founded on 24 May 1857 by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. AMU was known as Muslim Anglo Oriental College at the time of its establishment. In the year 1920, it was named Aligarh Muslim University. Sir Syed wanted to make it like Cambridge University. Aligarh Muslim University is recognized all over the world. Apart from the country, many students from abroad also come here and get education. Basically it is recognized as a minority institution, but students of other religions are also given admission here.
