Poverty in Pakistan: The economic condition of Pakistan is continuously worsening. Inflation is at its peak and the general public is suffering. Who can forget the long queues for flour in Pakistan? Now once again such a report has come out which shows that Pakistan is on the way to poverty and the common people there may have to bear its worst effect. The report has come from the World Bank in which it has been said that the economic condition of Pakistan is worsening.
Pakistan in trouble
The World Bank has warned Pakistan that more than 10 million people in the cash-strapped country could fall below the poverty line. This apprehension of the World Bank is based on the slow economic growth rate of 1.8 percent along with rising inflation which has reached 26 percent in the current financial year. The World Bank indicated in its report that Pakistan may miss achieving its economic targets. The report said Pakistan could remain in deficit for three consecutive years, falling short of its primary budget target.
Not enough efforts are being made
Syed Murtaza Muzaffari, the main author of the report, says that although efforts are going on to get out of the poor economic condition, it is still in the initial stage. The efforts being made to eradicate poverty are not enough. Economic growth is expected to remain stable at a modest 1.8 percent. Nearly 98 million Pakistanis are already below the poverty line, with the poverty rate remaining at around 40 percent. The report also has a warning for people living just above the poverty line.
The number of children not going to school may increase
The World Bank has warned that rising transportation costs as well as rising costs of living could lead to an increase in the number of children out of school. For families trying to survive, treatment may be delayed in case of illness. The report said the poor and marginalized people are likely to benefit from gains in agricultural production. But these gains will be offset by rising inflation and limited wage growth in high-employment sectors such as trade and transport.
