Voting for the presidential election in South Korea was held on Wednesday. It saw a fierce contest between the candidate of the liberal ruling party and the conservative former prosecutor. According to a pre-election poll, there was a close contest between the liberal Lee Jae-myung, the former governor of South Korea’s most densely populated Gyeonggi province, and his main rival and former Prosecutor General Eun Suk Iol.
The winning candidate will take up the presidency in May and a five-year term as leader of the world’s 10th largest economy. Nepal: Bus falls into 300 meters deep gorge, 14 passengers killed
At least 14 people on board were killed when a passenger bus skidded off a hill and fell to a depth of 300 meters in eastern Nepal on Thursday. According to the information, the accident happened at 7.30 am.
During the accident, the driver lost control of the steering and a bus carrying 20 passengers from Madi in Sankhuvasawa to Damak of Jhapa fell off a mountainous road. Police have confirmed that at least 14 passengers were killed in the accident. The identity of the dead is yet to be ascertained. Five people were evacuated alive from the accident site and some of them suffered serious injuries.
Nepal: ‘International Women of Courage’ award for transgender role
Nepal’s transgender activist Bhumika Shrestha has been announced with the US State Department’s prestigious International Women of Courage (IWOC) award for improving the lives of the LGBTI community. This is the second year in a row that this award has been given to a Nepali citizen.
