In Pakistan these days the public is completely troubled by the rising inflation. Till now people’s pockets were getting empty, now Imran Khan’s government is under threat. The opposition has brought a no-confidence motion regarding uncontrolled inflation. However, Imran Khan’s trust remains in his army. He has said that the army will never leave his side.
Pakistan’s major opposition parties on Tuesday moved a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan, demanding his removal from office, blaming his government for uncontrolled inflation. PML-N spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb said that around 100 MPs from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have signed the resolution. After which the proposal has been submitted to the National Assembly Secretariat.
As per the rules, the signature of at least 68 members of Parliament is required to compel the Speaker to convene a session. Now the vote on the no-confidence motion will have to be called between three to seven days. In a parliament with 342 MPs, the opposition would need the support of 172 members to remove the prime minister and his cabinet.
In such a situation, if some of the parties in the coalition government headed by Imran Khan sell in the name of inflation, then his chair may be in danger. While reacting to the no-confidence motion, Imran Khan said that the powerful army of the country is with him and he is confident that the government is not going anywhere.
He said- “The army stands with me, it will never support thieves (…) and since people are no longer supporting the opposition, they are claiming that institutions are supporting them.”
Imran Khan also alleged that his MPs have also been tempted to give 180 million rupees, if they support the no-confidence motion, they will get this amount. Khan said- “I have asked my MPs to take money and distribute it among the poor”.
The opposition parties have been blaming Imran Khan’s government for uncontrolled inflation. The opposition says that inflation has broken the back of the poor people of the country.
