new Delhi: The last large group of 600 Indian students evacuated from war-torn Ukraine’s northeastern city of Sumy has reached Poland. The students boarded a special train from Lviv to Poland. He is likely to board flights to India on Thursday. The students had arrived in Lviv in western Ukraine from Poltava by a special train.
“We have reached Poland, from here we are likely to fly to India,” said Jisna Jiji, a 25-year-old medical student. Students in Ukraine are being evacuated from the war-torn European country, traveling hundreds of miles using various modes of transport. Government of India is running ‘Operation Ganga’ campaign to rescue Indians trapped in Ukraine.
The operation in Sumi began on Tuesday morning when the last large group of 600 Indians were evacuated from the city. Anshad Ali, a student coordinator, told that with the help of the ‘International Committee of Red Cross’, Indian citizens were taken from Sumi in a convoy of 13 buses. This was the second attempt to expel him from Sumi. Sumi has been under heavy shelling since Russia’s attack on Ukraine last month. (agency)
