New Delhi. In a surprise move on Friday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dismissed former chief minister B.S. Appointed Vijayendra Yediyurappa, son of. Yediyurappa, as its Karnataka state unit chief. The decision is a strategic move by the party to empower the younger generation of leaders, sending a clear message to its cadre. However, B.S. Yediyurappa said the move was unexpected for him, adding that he never advocated it during his visits to Delhi.
Former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa expressed confidence that Vijayendra will work towards strengthening the party organization. He stressed the importance of unity within the party and highlighted Vijayendra’s role in ensuring BJP’s victory on more than 25 of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka in the upcoming elections. In response to questions B.S. Yediyurappa said, “None of us had expected this. You can ask anyone; I had never advocated making Vijayendra the state president in Delhi.”
Before his recent appointment, Vijayendra had held the post of state vice president of the party. B.S. Yediyurappa clarified that the final decision was taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president J.P. Nadda. He stressed that he played no role in the decision-making process.
Known for his organizational skills, Vijayendra is the younger son of former Chief Minister Yediyurappa. He achieved his first legislative victory from Shikaripura in Shivamogga district. Vijayendra’s appointment, widely recognized as an efficient organizational leader, has brought a fresh outlook to the party’s state unit.
Vijayendra’s appointment faced months of speculation and controversy. Due to the delay in the decision, various kinds of speculations were being made in political circles. Despite being a key member of the BJP’s top organizational unit and a member of the parliamentary board, Yediyurappa’s appointment as the state unit chief has finally ended the ongoing uncertainties.
