The Zojila tunnel, which will reduce the distance between Kashmir and Ladakh, is being prepared rapidly. After the construction of this tunnel, the army will easily reach Ladakh from Kashmir, where the Chinese army is laying its claim on the LAC. Let us tell you that this is one of the few development projects in India, which will be ready before its scheduled limit.
will start before the stipulated limit
The deadline of November 2026 has been set for the preparation of the Zojila tunnel. At the same time, officials say that by working fast, it will be ready by September 2024. According to The Tribune, after this the Indian Army will be able to use it in emergency. Harpal Singh, Project Manager, Megha Engineering and Infrastructure, told that if the Chinese Army creates any kind of disturbance on the border, then the Indian Army will be able to reach using this tunnel.
The need was felt in Kargil of 1999
The need for the Zojila tunnel was first felt during the Kargil war in 1999. Now looking at the way China is doing activities on the border, its construction seemed necessary. Through this tunnel, the Indian Army will be able to move easily with its belongings. Project manager Harpal Singh told that after its completion, the distance of three and a half hours will be reduced to 15 minutes. He told that even during the winter days when the temperature had reached minus 30 degrees, even then 1000 workers were engaged in completing it in this deserted hill. Harpal even bears go to hot places for four months during this period. But we had hired men to finish the work ahead of time.
2600 crores budget
Given the long border area with China and Pakistan, this tunnel will play a big role in protecting the motherland. Harpal Singh said that this tunnel will connect Sonmarg in Kashmir to Minamarg in Ladakh. 2600 crores is being spent in making this. The horseshoe shaped Zojila Tunnel will be the longest tunnel in India at a height of 3485 metres. He told that this is a great piece of engineering. After its construction, the distance from Baltal to Minamarg will be reduced from 40 km to just 13 km.
