A case has been registered against Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad, Textiles Minister Aslam Shaikh and All India Congress Committee (AICC) Minorities Department Chairman Imran Pratapgarhi. They have been accused of allegedly waving swords at a public event.
A Mumbai Police official said the event for Congress office-bearers was organized in suburban Bandra area. Officials said that the alleged incident happened on Sunday night, when a program was organized to welcome Imran Pratapgarhi at Rang Sharda Bhawan in Bandra.
According to officials, this FIR was registered after the matter came to the notice of the police. A case has been registered under the Bombay Police Act and Arms Act. A video of the event is doing the rounds on social media, in which Sheikh, Gaikwad and Imran Pratapgarhi can be seen waving swords. BJP leader Mohit Kamboj claimed that the police registered this FIR on his complaint.
Pratapgarhi had gone to Mumbai to attend a review meeting of the minority cell of the Maharashtra Congress. Police said that the investigation of the matter is on. Gaikwad is an MLA from Dharavi assembly seat, while Sheikh is an MLA from Malad (West).
