From today, all adults above 18 years of age in the country will start getting booster doses of COVID vaccine. In many researches around the world about booster doses, it has been revealed that they strengthen the body’s immune system. A similar study has been done by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The results showed that the booster resulted in an increase of up to 400 per cent in antibody levels.
This information was given by the Union Minister of State for Health, Family Welfare, Bharti Praveen Pawar in the Rajya Sabha. He said that data from booster doses of Covaccine and AstraZeneca vaccines showed that antibody levels increased three to four times after they were administered.
Immunity increased up to 32 times
At the same time, in another study, UK scientists claimed that the protection against infection in people who got booster doses became up to 32 times stronger. According to the report published in the Lancet journal, antibody levels were found to be 32 times higher in people who were given a dose of AstraZeneca vaccine as a booster dose after two doses of Pfizer. The only vaccine for AstraZeneca in India is Covishield. Scientists have made this claim after studying 2878 people in Britain.
Vaccine effective in breakthrough case
According to the ICMR, antibody levels have been found to be higher in those vulnerable to infection (breakthrough) after both doses of the vaccine. Those who got vaccinated after infection were found to have lower levels of antibodies than those who broke through. Dr. Pragya Yadav, a scientist at the National Institute of Virology, Pune, says that in the third wave of Omicron, the better effect of the vaccine has been seen.
New look booster
Scientists at the University of Rochester Medical Center in the US have claimed that the booster dose of the vaccine is also effective in protecting against a new wave of epidemics and new forms of corona in the future. This claim has been made after research conducted in 24 different places on 600 people over the age of 18 in America. According to scientists, the vaccine has played an important role in saving people’s lives in the Omicron wave.
