What most people take by following a healthy beauty routine is that they have protected their skin from dust, dirt and the harmful rays of the sun by using cleansing, toning and moisturizing creams on the face. But you know that just buying and applying some beauty product does not take care of your skin unless you understand about that product properly and know how to use it. Before using any product, it is important to know how this product works on our skin.
Using any product on your skin and hair without understanding it can seriously harm you. Dr Michaela Arens Correll, Head of the Medical-Scientific Department Sebamed, has told that there are some myths in the personal care routine which need to be dispelled.
Myth 1: Oily skin doesn’t need moisturizer
All skin types, be it dry or soft or moderate skin, all need to be moisturized. Oily skin tends to get dehydrated so it is important to use the right moisturizer on it. To moisturize the skin, it is necessary to use soap with the right pH. This makes it easier to keep the skin moisturized.
The pH level for normal skin is 5.5 which makes the skin soft and smooth. This soap protects the skin from dryness, irritation and infection.
Myth 2: Washing hair daily causes hair fall
Hair loss can have many causes, including age, medication side effects, illness, stress, scalp fungus, hair color, hereditary pattern baldness, etc. The reason for hair fall is not washing the hair daily, but the chemicals present in the shampoo which have an effect on both your scalp and hair. These chemicals damage the hair as well as dry the hair.
Myth 3: A good shampoo gives you a lot of foam
The right shampoo doesn’t necessarily mean one that gives good lather. Ultimately, the root cause of good or bad hair lies in the cells of your hair and scalp. The keratin in your hair helps keep hair smooth, strong and healthy. But harsh cleaning of the hair and scalp can have a negative impact on the quality and sensitivity of growing hair. Mass lather shampoos contain a large amount of surfactant which makes the hair very harsh. On the other hand, a low lather shampoo with a pH of 5.5 will keep both hair and scalp clean and healthy.
Myth 4: Your skin needs anti-aging products after 30 years
It is a common belief to use anti aging products after 30 years to prevent wrinkles and age better, but while using soap, why don’t we think that it also has an effect on our skin. Soap can actually make the skin dry and pale. Such soap can dehydrate the skin and cause acne on the skin.
