Moving into a new home and a new family means that you will do whatever your new family wants and adopts you. In such a situation, you will try to do all the best so that your best personality comes in front of them. This could include dressing up to please them or even showing off your cooking skills. But sometimes it all feels bad when you are not able to make bonding in any one relationship. The most difficult relationship is that of mother-in-law.
Sometimes it becomes difficult to please the mother-in-law. If your mother-in-law is finding out more of your mistakes or you are not able to bond with your mother-in-law, then it should be resolved before marriage. Here are some ways you can handle the situation without hurting their feelings.
talk with him
Go on a coffee date with your mother-in-law where you can talk comfortably with her. Feel free to put your opinion in front of them saying that your life partner is their son. They may find it difficult to accept someone else in their son’s life. In such a situation, tell them that you are making new relationships and not coming in the middle of their relationship.
Ask your future husband to set boundaries
Your mother-in-law may not be happy with whatever you have discussed with her. But when she hears the same thing from her son, she will try to understand it more. Just as it is easier for you to explain certain things to your parents, it will be easier for your future husband to set boundaries for you and your mother-in-law. Ask your husband to set limits where your mother-in-law’s thoughts do not affect your life.
stand up for yourself
You might think you are a good cook, but your mother-in-law insists that you learn the right way to make dal or paneer just like she does. Or maybe the way you fold your towels or hang your laundry to dry your mother-in-law just got it wrong. But if you are doing something right, then stand up for yourself and do it in your own way. Tell them that their point of view might be right and let them know what the difficulties might be in doing the same thing.
Keep in mind that no matter how difficult a relationship is, things can get better with time, so you can take the first step by speaking up.
