Jallianwala Bagh Massacre
There is a place named Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, Punjab. Where in the year 1919, the British had carried out this cruelty. Baisakhi day was going on, where many people along with their families had come to see the fair. Many people had reached there to listen to the speech of the leaders, that’s why General Dyer took the entry and the British soldiers surrounded the garden and fired bullets there. Many Indians died due to bullets, while some started jumping into a well there to save their lives, but after some time that well was also filled with a pile of dead bodies. Although, the number of those who were martyred is not known even today, yet if the official figures are to be believed, more than 1000 people had lost their lives.
What was the reason?
In fact, on that day a meeting was organized in Jallianwala Bagh against the repressive policy of the British, the Rowlatt Act and the arrest of Satyapal and Saifuddin. However, at this time curfew was in force in the city. But still people had come to attend the meeting even in the midst of curfew. While some had come there with their families to see the fair. That’s why General Dyer fired 1650 bullets in just 10 minutes without warning.
