The third and final phase of the Tamil Nadu Coordinated Bird Census 2022 will be conducted from March 26-27, with a focus on terrestrial birds in all protected areas and important bird habitats across the state. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden Shekhar Kumar Neeraj gave this information here on Saturday. The forest department said it has identified 15 wildlife sanctuaries, 16 bird sanctuaries and five national parks where more than 40 institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and scientific and civil society groups will carry out the exercise on a large scale. Around one million birds of about 80 different species were sighted during the first phase of the coordinated Tamil Nadu Bird Census 2022, held on January 28 and 29 in 13 coastal districts of the state.
