family life
Born and brought up in a small village called Vinavamangalam in Vellore district, Jayaganesh had a poor financial background. His father worked in a factory and somehow supported the family. Jayaganesh always thought about the pathetic condition of the people of his village. The people of his village were very poor and he wanted to help the people of his village.
First job started at Rs 2500
Coming from a poverty-stricken family, he studied in his village school till 8th standard and after passing 10th, Jayaganesh joined a polytechnic college as he was told that he would get a job as soon as he passed. There he passed the examination with 91 per cent marks and then studied mechanical engineering from Tanthi Periyar Institute of Technology. After completing his studies, he also got a job in a company, where he used to get a salary of Rs 2,500 a month. Came to Chennai and studied, did not get a job as an engineer, then became a billing clerk in Satyam Cinema. Many times also served as a waiter in the interval.
After that, he realized that running his family on this salary is not easy. On the other hand, he also had a dream of becoming an IAS, so he left that job and started preparing for UPSC. In the meantime, Jayganesh started working as a waiter in the hotel to meet his expenses, but he stuck to his goal. After returning from the hotel, Jai Ganesh studied sincerely as much time as he got.
Journey from waiter to IAS officer
K Jayaganesh had chosen the Civil Services Examination but completing this journey was not that easy. Jayaganesh failed the civil services examination six times but never gave up. Familial pressure and financial trouble had also arisen for Jayaganesh and his family. But Jayganesh still did not give up and during this time did many strange things. He had failed in the UPSC exam but in the meantime he got selected for the Intelligence Bureau exam.
Continuous hard work brought him success
It was very difficult for Jayaganesh to decide whether to stop his struggle and choose a job or take the UPSC exam for the seventh time. Eventually, he chose UPSC and K Jayaganesh’s hard work paid off as he secured 156th rank in this exam. Believing in himself and constant hard work brought him success.
In an interview given to the media, Jayganesh says, “I have worked really hard to make my dream come true without losing faith in myself. My real work starts now. I want to work hard to eradicate poverty and make all people aware of education. Education is the best tool to eradicate poverty. I want Tamil Nadu to become a literate state like Kerala.
Finally, in 2008, after Jayganesh made his long-time dream come true, he said, “I couldn’t believe myself when the results came. I had secured 156th rank out of more than 700 selected candidates. This is a great rank and I will definitely join IAS. I felt like I had won a war that had been going on for many years. Now I have breathed a sigh of relief.”
