New Delhi. Thousands of people die every year due to a deadly disease like malaria. Despite all the efforts of the government, it has not been controlled so far. Every year the whole world celebrates ‘World Malaria Day’ on 25 April with the aim of spreading awareness among people regarding this disease. This disease is caused by the bite of infected mosquitoes. Female ‘Anopheles’ mosquitoes spread the ‘Plasmodium parasite’ through their saliva, which causes malaria disease. Although this disease can be prevented if some precautions are taken, yet if someone gets malaria, it is also possible to treat it, provided it is detected at the right time. According to a study, between 2000 and 2014, there has been a 40% decline in the number of malaria deaths worldwide. Many countries of the world are continuously working on the treatment and medicines of this disease.
Theme of Malaria Day this year
Every year a theme is prepared to celebrate this day. This year the theme of World Malaria Day 2022 is “Using innovation to reduce the burden of malaria disease and save lives”.
History of Malaria Day
The idea of celebrating World Malaria Day comes from Africa Malaria. It was first held in Africa in 2008. It was proposed in 2007, at the 60th session of the World Health Assembly, that Africa Malaria Day be changed to World Malaria Day, which was unanimously agreed. The purpose of celebrating this day was that this idea will help in bringing awareness to the people globally to identify the existence of malaria in countries around the world and fight against it.
