Malaria cases in India: A case of death of a Bastar fighter soldier due to malaria has come to light in Chhattisgarh. Earlier, two people had died of malaria in Bastar itself. So many cases of malaria have been reported in the last 5 months across the country that they have broken the record of last year. Whereas the highest number of malaria cases were registered in the year 2023.

According to the data from January to May 2024 released by the National Center for Vector Borne Disease Control in July 2024, 53497 cases of malaria have been registered across India in just 5 months. Whereas last year in the same months, a total of 45072 cases of malaria were reported. In such a situation, there are about 8 and a half thousand cases more this time as compared to last year. However, the deaths are 50 percent less this time as compared to last time. Till May last year, a total of 16 people had died of malaria, while this year this figure was 7. However, apart from malaria cases, deaths are also increasing in June and July.

These states are the most affected
This year, the 5 states most affected by malaria are Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Mizoram. Along with this, cases of malaria are also being seen in Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat. This time, till May 2024, Odisha has reported the highest number of malaria cases at 12363, while Chhattisgarh is at second place with 10114 cases. Along with this, Jharkhand is at third place with 9933 cases and Mizoram is at fourth.

Dr. Satpal, who has been the nodal officer for malaria and dengue in Delhi MCD, says that malaria mosquitoes breed in dirty or unclean water. Wherever such water collects, the larvae of female Anopheles mosquitoes that spread malaria thrive. It is very important to clean not only rain water but also rivers, drains, or stagnant water. Along with this, municipal corporations should also spray mosquito repellent medicines on time in addition to cleanliness.
