New Delhi. After the Nirbhaya incident in 2012, the POCSO law was made to prevent child sexual crimes in the country. Under this, a provision was made for strict action against people committing such crimes. Under the new law, a separate special court was also formed later to hear POCSO cases. The Government of India gave important information regarding legal action under the POCSO Act in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. It was told that 78 percent of the cases were settled in the courts of Madhya Pradesh while 68 percent of the cases were settled in the district courts of Rajasthan. It was told that there are currently 410 special POCSO courts in the country, out of which about 1.6 lakh out of 2.99 lakh cases have been settled.

Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal gave this information in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha. He said that India has established 410 special POCSO courts for cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. He said that since their establishment in 2019, a total of 2,99,759 cases have been registered in these courts, while 1,62,497 cases have been disposed of.

Madhya Pradesh-Rajasthan top…
According to the data provided by him, Uttar Pradesh is leading with 90,822 cases registered in 74 special POCSO courts, of which 34,998 have been disposed of. He said Madhya Pradesh has 57 courts with 29,419 cases and they have disposed of 22,456 cases. Meghwal said that similarly, 11,798 out of 30,203 cases have been disposed of in Bihar and 10,138 out of 14,938 cases registered in Rajasthan have been disposed of.
