Heavy rains lashed Mumbai on Sunday, forcing the airport authorities to suspend runway operations twice in a span of about an hour, though for a short time, sources said. Among the cancelled flights at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were those of budget airline IndiGo as well as full-service carriers Air India and Vistara, sources said, according to a PTI report.

Many flights had to be cancelled

Sources said 18 arriving and departing flights each were cancelled on Sunday due to persistent heavy rains and low visibility in the city. The cancellations included 24 flights of IndiGo, including 12 departing ones, and eight flights of Air India, including four departing ones. Vistara also cancelled four of its flights at the Mumbai airport, sources said. Earlier, a source had said that due to bad weather and low visibility, runway operations were first suspended for eight minutes at 12.12 pm and later from 1 pm to 1.15 pm.

Similarly, Air India said that flight operations are being affected due to heavy rains in Mumbai and as a result some of our flights have been cancelled and diverted. Air India is offering a full refund or one-time free rescheduling for confirmed bookings for travel on 25 July 2024. SpiceJet alert

Budget airline SpiceJet has also said that due to bad weather (heavy rain) in Mumbai (BOM), all departures/arrivals and their consequent flights may be affected. Passengers are requested to keep an eye on their flight status. Incessant rain continues in Mumbai. Life in the city is disrupted. There is waterlogging and waterlogging at many places. According to the BMC, the water level of Mithi river in Kurla adjoining the airport is one meter below the danger mark of 3.5 meters.

Indigo also cautioned
