New Delhi. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari today made a big announcement to abolish the existing toll system. Along with this, he also talked about launching a new satellite toll collection system. The Union Minister said that a new satellite-based toll collection system will be launched soon. The purpose behind implementing this system is to increase toll collection and reduce congestion at toll plazas. It may take two months to implement the satellite toll collection system. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that soon a global navigation satellite system with state-of-the-art technology will be implemented in India. The Ministry of Road and Transport has already started working on this scheme.
What is Satellite Based Toll Collection System?
Satellite based toll collection system is based on GPS technology. The distance you have travelled on the toll road will be tracked through GPS system. With this new technology, you will not have to stop anywhere for toll, rather money will be deducted from your account based on the distance. This will help in avoiding traffic jams and long queues of vehicles at toll and will save time during travel.
This is how money will be deducted
The satellite based toll collection system will work with the help of OBU i.e. on-board unit installed in the car. With the help of this OBU, the satellite will track the distance covered by the car through the cameras installed on the highway. After which money will be deducted from your wallet or account linked to the OBU.
The system is applicable in these countries of the world
Satellite based toll collection system is already implemented in Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria, Belgium and Czech Republic. Now this facility is going to be implemented in India too.
