At present, lifts and escalators have become an essential thing in people’s lives. However, many times accidents are also seen due to technical flaws in them. Keeping these things in mind, on Wednesday, the Bihar government has passed the ‘Bihar Lift and Escalator Bill, 2024’ in the Assembly. Let us tell you that under this bill, registration of lifts and escalators has now become mandatory in the state.

Registration of lifts and escalators is mandatory

Registration of lifts and escalators has become mandatory in the state after the Bihar Lift and Escalator Bill, 2024 was passed by voice vote in the Assembly. Bihar Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav introduced this bill on the floor of the Assembly. After the passage of the bill, irregular use of lifts and escalators in multi-storey buildings, commercial complexes, hospitals, offices and hotels will no longer be possible in Bihar. It will be considered illegal.

Why was such a bill brought?

Bihar’s Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav has said that in recent years, the construction of multi-storey residential buildings, commercial buildings and hotels has increased rapidly. It is necessary to regulate the proper operation of these machines and equipment from the point of view of safety to prevent any untoward incident. Now it will be mandatory to get registration for installing lifts and escalators in the state.

The limit will be 20 years

Bihar’s Energy Minister has informed that according to the passed bill, the life of escalators or lifts will be only 20 years. Lifts and escalators cannot be installed in the state without the approval of the Energy Department. If the owner or the concerned institution does not get it repaired or ignores the necessary standards, then a fine will be imposed on them.

Mandatory inspection is required after every three years

Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav has also informed the assembly that as per the rule of the bill, mandatory inspection of lifts and escalators is necessary after every three years. The bill also provides relief to the victims in case of lift accidents. As per the rule, insurance and compensation will be provided to the victim through third party insurance provision.
