Microsoft global outage : Shares of Crowdstrike, the cybersecurity firm behind the Microsoft Blue Screen error, have fallen sharply today. It lost nearly 21 percent of its value in a single day. The company’s stock was down 21 percent in unofficial trading. This has led to a drop in Crowdstrike’s valuation by $16 billion (Rs 13.39 trillion). Various companies and airports have been badly affected today due to technical flaws in Microsoft’s servers across the world.

Why did this mistake happen?

According to Oleg Gorokhovsky, founder of Ukrainian online bank Monobank, the technical glitch was caused by an interaction between the “CrowdStrike antivirus” software and Microsoft’s Windows operating system. CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz said the company is actively working with customers affected by the flaw found in a single content update for Windows hosts.

Mac and Linux are not affected

“Mac and Linux hosts are not affected. This is not a security incident or cyber attack. The issue has been identified, isolated, and a fix has been deployed. We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide complete and continuous updates on our website,” he added.

Microsoft also responded to the technical glitch and said that a solution for Windows devices is coming. The company blamed a third party for the glitch. The company said, “We are aware of an issue affecting Windows devices caused by an update from a third-party software platform. We expect a solution to be available soon.”
