PIB debunks Mamata Banerjee’s “microphone muted” claim

The Centre’s fact-checking body PIB has dismissed as misleading West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s claim that her microphone was switched off during a Niti Aayog meeting. Rejecting her allegations, PIB today said “only the clock showed that her speaking time was over.”

“It is being claimed that the microphone of the West Bengal Chief Minister was switched off during the 9th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog. This claim is misleading. The clock was only showing that her speaking time was over. Even a bell was not rung to mark it,” PIB said in a post on social media platform X.

According to PIB, if seen alphabetically, Mamata Banerjee’s turn to speak would have come after lunch, but on the official request of the Chief Minister she was “accommodated” as the seventh speaker.

Nirmala Sitharaman also spoke on the allegations

Meanwhile, responding to Mamata Banerjee’s allegations, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that her claim that her microphone was switched off is completely false. She said that each Chief Minister was allotted adequate time to speak in the meeting. She said that Mamata Banerjee should tell the truth behind it instead of fabricating a story based on lies.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, ‘CM Mamata Banerjee attended the Niti Aayog meeting. We all heard her. Each CM was given an allotted time and it was displayed on the screen which was present in front of every table. She told the media that her mic was switched off. This is completely false.’
