Jaipur. Electricity consumers in Rajasthan are going to get a big shock once again. The government will again collect fuel surcharge from domestic consumers to cover the losses of power companies. According to sources, fuel surcharge exemption has been stopped for consumers consuming more than 200 units. The previous Congress Gehlot government had given this exemption in August last year. During that time, an order was issued to waive fuel surcharge in the bills of all domestic consumers.
According to sources in the electricity department, the budget provision for the amount of fuel surcharge exemption was made only on billing till March 2024. Rajasthan’s discoms had recently sought guidance from the energy department in this regard. After the indication received from there, now the fuel surcharge recovery is being started. The surcharge in the bill has been calculated at 61 paise per unit. However, the exemption has still been kept on for consuming less than 200 units of electricity.

There are about 15 lakh consumers who consume more than 200 units of electricity
Fuel surcharge will be collected from the month of April. This will give a big shock to your upcoming bill. If your bill is even one unit more than 200 units per month, then fuel surcharge will be levied on the entire bill. According to a rough estimate, this can increase the monthly bill of consumers by Rs 100 to Rs 900. Out of the total consumers in the state, 15 lakh consumers consume more than two hundred units of electricity. Whereas there are 1.14 crore such consumers who consume only up to two hundred units of electricity.
The loss of power companies has reached close to 1.5 lakh crores
It is noteworthy that due to discounts on electricity, wastage and theft, the electricity companies in Rajasthan are running into huge losses. This loss of the electricity companies has crossed 1 lakh crore. It is about to reach 1.5 lakh crore. In view of this loss, clouds of crisis had already started looming over free electricity and discounts in electricity bills.
More than 69.88 lakh domestic consumers are getting zero bills
Currently, more than 69.88 lakh domestic consumers in Rajasthan are getting zero bills. 10.09 lakh agricultural consumers are also getting zero bills. Farmers are being provided 2000 units of free electricity every month. Domestic consumers are being given 100 to 200 units of free electricity in two categories. But now the cuts have started on them.
