Vientiane (Laos): Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar on Saturday met Laos Prime Minister Soniksi Sipandon during the summit in Laos. During this, Jaishankar raised the issue of smuggling of Indian citizens in the Southeast Asian country. The two leaders also discussed development partnership and cooperation in areas such as defense and energy. Jaishankar is in the capital of the Laos People’s Democratic Republic to attend the meetings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). He met Sipandon along with other foreign ministers participating in the meeting.

Jaishankar said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’, “Glad to meet Prime Minister Sonexi Siphandon of Laos People’s Democratic Republic. Greeted him on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Discussed our development partnership and cooperation in defense, heritage conservation, energy, digital and capacity building. ” Jaishankar said that he values ​​​​Siphandon’s guidance to further strengthen close bilateral relations deeply rooted in shared civilizational ties. He said, “During the conversation with the Prime Minister of Laos People’s Democratic Republic, I raised the issue of trafficking of Indian citizens through cyber fraud centers.

Jaishankar appreciated the cooperation of Laos

I appreciate the cooperation of the Laos government in rescuing our citizens and providing relief.” Jaishankar discussed the matter with the foreign ministers of Cambodia and Thailand. The Indian Embassy in Laos said on Sunday that 13 Indians in Laos have been rescued and sent back home. These Indians were lured to work in some cyber fraud centers. So far the embassy has rescued 518 Indians. (Language)
