While the wait for women’s IPL continues to grow in India, Windies Cricket has approved the organization of women’s league along with men’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL). It will be held at the same time as the Men’s CPL 2022. Three teams will participate in the inaugural season of the Women’s CPL (WCPL). Whereas BCCI President Sourav Ganguly recently said that, he can get women’s IPL done in 2023.
Let us tell you that the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is to be organized from 30 August to 30 September this year. Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders will take part in the first edition of the Women’s T20 League. Cricket West Indies (CWI) informed about this decision on Monday 14 March.
Ricky Skerritt, President of Cricket West Indies said, ‘We have taken this step to bring more and more women from West Indies into cricket. We are glad that we partnered with CPL to take the league to this level. We had already considered this before Corona in 2019. I am sure all the women’s matches will be very exciting and will be loved all over the world.
CPL CEO Pete Russell said, “Adding the women’s event to CPL is a big dream come true for us. We are glad that it came true today. I want to thank Cricket West Indies for this. The Women’s T10 Challenge held during the 2019 CPL was a huge success. We have now taken a step ahead of that.
The CPL CEO expressed happiness while confirming the dates for the 2022 edition. He said that as it has become easier to move from one place to another, similarly CPL will reach more than one country this time. Let us tell you that according to the release, the tournament will be played in four countries. Group stage matches will be held in three countries and final round (playoff and final) will be held in fourth country. All the selected women and men players of West Indies will be able to take part in this tournament.
