Team India and former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli’s bat has been silent for a long time. He was dismissed for a golden duck against Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) on Tuesday in IPL 2022. Along with this, he has played 100 matches without a century. Kohli came to bat after RCB opener Anuj Rawat was dismissed for 4 in the first over.
Kohli returned to the pavilion on the last ball of the first over. Dushmantha Chamira bowled a back-of-length delivery and the 33-year-old smashed it into the hands of Deepak Hooda, standing on point. He was the victim of a golden duck for the fourth time in his IPL career. Earlier in 2017, he returned to the pavilion on the very first ball. So far in IPL 2022, in seven matches, Kohli has managed only 119 runs at an average of 19.83, with the highest score of 48.
Kohli is the top scorer in IPL history so far in 214 matches with 6402 five centuries and 42 fifties. He is at the seventh position in the list of cricketers with the most runs (inclusive of Tests, ODIs, T20Is). He has scored 23,650 runs so far. Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with 34,357 runs.
When was the last century scored- Virat Kohli applied in the Pink Ball Test against Bangladesh on 23 November 2019 in Kolkata. Since then, he has played 17 Tests, 21 ODIs, 25 T20Is and 37 matches in the IPL, but has not been able to score a century. He has so far scored 43 centuries in ODIs and 27 in Tests. He has scored 5 centuries in IPL.
A matter of concern for Team India- Kohli’s form is a matter of concern for Team India. T20 World Cup is to be held in Australia this year. Team India has suffered this brunt in the ICC T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates last year. During the limited overs series against Sri Lanka, India captain Rohit Sharma had advised journalists to leave Kohli alone. He believed that everything is fine, but the figures do not lie and there is a clear indication that Kohli is struggling.
