Diksha/Haldwani. The trend of keeping dogs, cats and other species of animals in urban homes has increased. With this hobby, cases of animal bites have also increased rapidly. Of these, up to 70 percent cases are dog bites and 30 percent cat bites. Every day 150 patients are coming to Haldwani Base Hospital to get rabies vaccination.
KK Pandey, PMS of the hospital, said that with the onset of summer, cases of animal bites increase. After the change in weather, the behavior of pets is also changing. Due to which pets have become a cause of trouble for people. Every day about 150 people are becoming victims of pet bites. About 120-130 people have become victims of dog bites. He told that adequate quantity of rabies injections and other medicines are available in the hospital.
Pets are becoming aggressive due to these reasons
Veterinary Officer Dr. RK Pathak said that the body temperature of dogs is higher than that of humans. Humans get rid of heat by sweating, but animals do not have sweat glands in their skin. Due to which they are not able to expel body heat in the form of sweat. Due to this they become irritable, sick and aggressive. In such a situation, if you tease them, they come back to bite. Most people get their pets like dogs and cats regularly vaccinated, but street stray dogs are more dangerous. So we should stay away from them.
Take special care of food and drink
Dr. RK Pathak told that dogs eat very little in summer, hence they should be given a balanced diet. Always keep drinking water with them. In case of excessive heat, glucose should be given once or twice a day. They should be kept in a shady place. In case of excessive panting, clean his body with a wet cloth. Take them out only in the morning or evening. If they feel tired, take them to the doctor immediately.
Do this immediately after getting bitten
Dr. RK Pathak told that if a dog has bitten you:
⦁ First clean the wound.
⦁ After that, wash it thoroughly with antiseptic soap and water for 10 to 15 minutes, so that the risk of bacterial infection is reduced.
⦁ After cleaning the wound, apply antiseptic solution on it.
⦁ If the bleeding is not stopping even after washing the wound, then try to stop it with the help of a cloth.
⦁ After that immediately consult a doctor and get injection for tetanus and anti-rabies.
