Technology NewsOften you must have heard that road accidents happen due to the driver falling asleep while driving. To prevent this, Visakhapatnam engineering students Pradeep Verma, along with two of his friends Gyan Sai and Rohit, designed such a device, which would prevent such accidents. According to students, the idea to develop this device came from an accident in Andhra Pradesh in 2017 in which buses collided when the driver napped.
This is how the device works
This device is mounted in such a place from where the device can keep an eye on the driver’s eyes. The device is fitted with a camera equipped with artificial intelligence and it monitors whether the driver’s eye blinks have decreased as a normal person blinks several times in a minute. Otherwise, the speaker in the device makes a loud noise and alerts the driver. In this way accidents can be prevented.

We have tried this device with private buses, but are working on improving it further, so that such road accidents can be reduced. Apart from this, preparations are being made for its testing in collaboration with International Schools and State Transport.

GPS tracks the device
This device is connected to the Internet and the location of that vehicle can be tracked with GPS. All this can be seen on the app attached to the device. Apart from camera footage, with the help of the app, it can be found out whether the driver is not blinking and where is the location of the vehicle. Rohit says, this device can prove to be very useful for drivers.
