Taipei: Due to the powerful storm ‘Gami’, the air force exercise on the east coast of Taiwan was cancelled. Now offices, schools and tourist places have also been closed across the island. While Taiwan has taken precautionary measures to avoid this powerful storm, the situation in the Philippines has worsened due to heavy rains due to the storm. At least 13 people have lost their lives due to the storm while more than six lakh people have been displaced.

It is raining in many parts of Taiwan

Typhoon Gaemi has not yet entered the mainland of Taiwan, but heavy rains are already falling in most parts of Taiwan. The storm is expected to make a direct landfall in the northern county of Yalan on Wednesday evening. Fishing boats have been called back to the port due to rough seas. Air passengers were seen rushing to catch flights abroad before the storm hit due to cancellation of many flights.

Strong winds have started blowing

The Central Meteorological Administration said the storm was moving east of Taiwan at 18 kilometers per hour on Wednesday morning with maximum winds of 183 kilometers per hour. Heavy rain was falling in the capital Taipei, but strong winds had not yet blown. Typhoon Gaemi has not reached the islands but it has increased seasonal monsoon rains.

The situation in the Philippines is dire

In the Philippines, this storm has been named ‘Karina’. The Philippines Disaster Management Agency said that due to the rain, at least a dozen landslides have occurred in five days and flood-like conditions have been seen in many places.
