Increasing demand for internet has increased online fraud. A new kind of fraud message is going viral these days that tells you that you have won the lottery or a free iPhone 13 and all you need to do is click on a link to claim your prize. These are the world’s oldest online scam tricks. Still, people are getting trapped by such frauds. Things have become so worrying in fact that the Twitter handle of Press Information Bureau (PIB) has tweeted warning all users against clicking on such fake links. If you have received such a message, do not click on the link. It could be an online fraud.
Yesterday, after a message went viral that the government is distributing free laptops to all students in India, PIB posted a tweet saying it was fake. Now another PIB made another tweet warning against the online scam. Not every link you find online is credible! Beware of links that entice you to win the lottery, share your personal information and provide free gadgets and data.
Don’t get caught up in the lottery winning messages
This is probably the oldest trick in the online scamming book. It surfaced on email in the early 2000s and later in text messages. Even today, if a message says that you have won the lottery or won an iPhone 13, you will definitely see that message open. And that’s a trap. Always remember that life does not give free gifts. If you have received a link from an unfamiliar source, never click on it.
