Due to problems in Microsoft Cloud Services, corporate companies even in the country’s IT hub Bengaluru had to face problems. There was a big impact on the IT industry due to the work being halted for 2 hours. This problem was caused by the update of antivirus ‘CrowdStrike’. All the companies using Microsoft Cloud Services received an auto update from CrowdStrike. As soon as this update was run on the system, there was a problem in Windows and a blue screen, which is called Screen of Death in the language of IT professionals, started appearing on the system. Systems started crashing one after the other from 9:30 am onwards. 23 flights were also cancelled in Bengaluru today.

System was shut down for about 2 hours

In Bangalore, corporate companies had systems shut down for 2 hours. With the help of the SOP issued by Microsoft, some were able to restart their systems, while some companies found an immediate solution by employing their cyber security experts. Microsoft cloud services are much easier to use than other players in the market, so most software companies, especially startups, use these cloud services.

The problem in Microsoft’s cloud services on Friday has also raised questions about its reliability across the world. This problem caused by the Crowd Strike update affected the operations of airlines, TV telecast, banking and many corporate companies.

Handwritten boarding passes issued at the airport

Airlines IndiGo, Air India Express, SpiceJet and Akasa at Bengaluru airport on Friday started checking passengers manually and issuing handwritten boarding passes after the Navitair Departure Control System (NDCS) crashed due to a global technical glitch in Microsoft servers. Passengers at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) faced a lot of inconvenience due to the disruption in flight services and were seen waiting impatiently for their flights. The airport waiting area was jam packed with passengers due to the disruption in flight services.

Manual checking introduced at Bengaluru airport

Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) spokesperson said in a statement, “Due to a global disruption in NDCS, operations of some aircraft are being affected across their entire network including KIA from 10.40 am today.” BIAL said that services of IndiGo, Akasa and SpiceJet in Terminal-1 and Air India Express in Terminal-2 were affected. It said that there is also disruption in ‘Common Use Terminal Equipment’ (CUTE) and Common Use Self Service (CUSS) systems. The spokesperson said, “In view of this disruption, IndiGo, Air India Express, SpiceJet and Akasa have started manual checking to reduce passenger inconvenience.”
