The picture of cinema halls will change in UP, special opportunity for investors, CM Yogi Adityanath said- 'There are 39 districts where...'


New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government will soon build multiplexes and redevelop single screen halls. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said in a meeting with the State Tax Department on Thursday, July 18, that a policy should be introduced where investors are encouraged to build multiplexes. He said that at present there are 39 districts in UP where there is not a single multiplex, while there are 10 districts where there are neither single screen cinema halls nor multiplexes.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath said that a subsidy scheme will be brought for the revival of cinema halls. According to a press release from the UP government, the CM held a meeting with officials of the State Tax Department on Thursday and highlighted the important role of cinema in public entertainment. The Chief Minister said, ‘The state government should bring an incentive scheme to revive these cinema halls.’

CM Yogi Adityanath further said, ‘This initiative will not only ensure easy access to entertainment for the public, but will also promote investment and generate employment.’ CM Adityanath also emphasized that under this scheme, investors should be encouraged to develop commercial complexes and low-capacity theaters on closed or active cinema sites.

The CM also suggested a pragmatic approach to relax the minimum seating limit for cinema halls to create favourable opportunities for investors. He recommended providing grants and other investment incentives for the project. He said that in districts where there are already multiplexes, if new investors want to build more, they should also get grants. He directed the State Tax Department to prepare a plan quickly by talking to investors and other stakeholders in the sector.
