The son was always drunk... the parents took such a step, made a special appeal to the government

Pathanamthitta: It is not easy to understand the pain of elderly parents whose son is addicted to drugs. Especially when they have tried many times in many ways to free their son from this addiction. A tear-jerking case has come to light from Kerala in which the parents, troubled by their son’s addiction, freed themselves from this world, that too in a very painful way. Along with this, they also made a special appeal to the government.

An elderly couple in Pathanamthitta, upset with their son’s drug addiction, allegedly committed suicide by setting themselves on fire inside their car on Friday, police said. According to police, the bodies of Raju Thomas George (69) and Legi Thomas (63), residents of Tiruvalla, were found burnt inside their car.

The elderly couple’s son is admitted in rehab

Police said that according to a suicide note recovered from their residence, it appears that the couple took the step because they were upset with their 39-year-old son’s drug addiction. Their son is currently admitted in a private rehabilitation centre at Thodupuzha in Idukki district.

A police officer said, this suicide note was for the police. He has requested to get his son admitted to a government institution for treatment. He also said that his property should be handed over to his daughter-in-law and granddaughter. (Input from news agency Bhasha)
