One event… two golds

It has happened once in the Olympics, the biggest sporting event, when two players were awarded gold medals for the same event. This incident is from Tokyo Olympics 2020. In the high jump event, there was a tough competition between Qatar’s athlete Mutaz Essa Barshim and Italy’s Gianmarco Tamberi. Both athletes were unable to get ahead of each other even after round after round. The scores of both were remaining equal.

Can both win gold?

As the scores of both the players were the same again and again, an official told them that the next step was a jump-off to see who could last longer than the other. But then Barshim, the world champion of this sport, asked the official if both of us could win the gold medal? Responding to this question of Barshim, the official replied that yes, it is possible. On hearing this, both the athletes jumped with joy. After this, both the players shook hands and hugged each other after winning on the podium. Even before talking to the official, both hugged and congratulated each other for giving their best performance in the Tokyo Olympics.
