AIIMS New Delhi: All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi has added another achievement to its name. Recently, the lab built in AIIMS Trauma Centre has received NABL accreditation. Not only is this the first lab of AIIMS which is NABL accredited, but it has also become a standard lab which is globally accepted and is rarely seen in government hospitals across the country.
About this Dr. Kamran Farooq, Chief of AIIMS Trauma Center He said that this accreditation of the first lab in AIIMS is of great importance. Now this is a reliable lab and the chances of error in the test here are very less. And even if there is a mistake, it is reported immediately. In such a situation, the results of the tests are very accurate. Not only this, the tests conducted here will be valid not only in India but also in any country of the world.

How does one get recognition?
Dr. Farooq says that the accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories is given for the entire process under the quality control of the lab, how correctly and within the time limit the samples are being taken. They are being tested within the stipulated time limit, whether the sample is contaminated or not and accurate results are coming in the turn around time. Whether everything is being done accurately or not. Apart from this, whether the equipment and machines are working completely correctly or not. This NABL accreditation is like a seal of accuracy.
How many tests daily, how long does it take to get the report?
Dr. Kamran says that in this lab of AIIMS Trauma Center, about 200 samples are taken in the biochemistry lab in a day and they are tested, while about 50 tests are done in microbiology every day. The result of every test comes within about an hour.
Dr. Farooq said that efforts are being made to get NABL accreditation for other AIIMS labs as well. Generally, private labs try to get NABL accreditation to attract patients to their labs and to maintain trust. Patients come to government hospitals anyway and tests are done in the labs, but AIIMS is working on standards.
