New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tributes to legendary freedom fighters Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Chandrashekhar Azad on their birth anniversaries. “Tributes to Lokmanya Tilak on his birth anniversary. He will always be remembered as a colossus in India’s fight for freedom. He was a visionary who worked tirelessly to ignite the spirit of nationalism and also emphasised on education and service,” Modi said in a post on ‘X’.

PM also shared the link of the speech

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared a video link of his speech at an event held in Pune last year. In this program, he was honored with the Lokmanya Tilak National Award. Let us tell you that Bal Gangadhar Tilak was born on 23 July 1856 in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. He is also known as Lokmanya. Tilak is remembered for his invaluable contribution to the Indian freedom struggle. Mahatma Gandhi called him the ‘maker of modern India’.

Described Azad as a ‘fearless hero’

In another post, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to the great freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad. He described Azad as a fearless hero who was committed to India’s independence. Modi said, “His ideals and thoughts continue to resonate in the hearts and minds of millions of people, especially the youth.” Born in 1906 in Bhavra, Madhya Pradesh, Azad ran a revolutionary network and vowed to never be caught by the British.

Chandrashekhar Azad had given a tough time to the British government at a very young age. Staying true to his resolve to remain ‘Azad’, he shot himself during an encounter with the police in 1931. In honour of Chandrashekhar Azad, the government has renamed Bhavra as Chandrashekhar Azad Nagar.
