Javed Akhtar criticized ‘Animal’
Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar remains in the headlines for his statements and now once again he has said something, due to which he has started being discussed. The famous screenwriter has shared his views on a blockbuster film released in 2023. Javed Akhtar, while considering the characters of today’s ‘Angry Young Man’ of Indian cinema, said that now ‘the hero of the films is turning into a caricature. He has become a man who wants a woman to lick his shoes.’ Javed Akhtar said all this while taking a dig at Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film ‘Animal’, in which Ranbir Kapoor has played the lead role.
What did Javed Akhtar say on the concept of Angry Young Man?
Javed Akhtar, while speaking to We Are Yuva, addressed the concept of the ‘angry young man’ in films and citing Animal, said, “Showing irrational anger, which is baseless, starts turning the character into a caricature.” Reacting to the concept of the ‘angry young man’ in the North and South, he said, “Even in the South, the hero of the film is turning into a caricature. He is a man who wants a woman to lick his shoe. He already starts turning into a caricature of an angry man or a strong man, but in a very different way.”
Javed Akhtar did not watch Animal
When Javed Akhtar was asked if he had seen Animal, he replied, “I have not seen Animal. People told me about it and I also read in the news that the hero of the film asks the female character to lick his shoes. She bends down, but thank God this scene was cut right there and was not taken further. When people were copying the idea of the angry young man, they forgot to see that Amitabh Bachchan’s character in ‘Zanjeer’ was not only angry but also deeply hurt.”
