Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has come on the backfoot in the case of burning of 10 people alive in West Bengal. The state government has constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Additional Director General of Police (CID) Gyanwant Singh. At the same time, Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar has demanded the resignation of Mamata Banerjee. Majumdar said, “The law and order situation in Bengal has completely collapsed. If the leaders of the ruling party can be killed in back-to-back attacks, then how safe are the common people. The chief minister should resign now.” ”
TMC’s Rajya Sabha member Shantanu Sen hit back at Majumdar. Sen said, “The BJP is demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister due to an incident. On this basis, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah should have resigned earlier in view of the law and order situation in the BJP-ruled state.” ”
Violence erupts after killing of panchayat leader
In fact, 10 people have been reported dead in the violence that broke out after the murder of a TMC panchayat leader on Monday. The houses of these people were set on fire, in which they burnt alive and died. Apart from this, there are also reports of injuries to a large number of people. Police said Bhadu Sheikh, the deputy head of Barshal gram panchayat in Birbhum district, was murdered on Monday. Only after that this arson incident happened in the night, in which 10 people were burnt alive. Bhadu Sheikh was a resident of Bogtui village.
The fire did not start during the violence, claims TMC
Locals say that the arson was carried out by members of a faction of TMC. However, the Trinamool Congress has denied these allegations. Birbhum district TMC president Anubrata Mandal claimed that the fire was not set during the violence. He said that the arson was caused due to short circuit and due to that the houses caught fire. Rejecting the attack on the part of TMC workers, Mandal said, “People’s houses were set on fire due to short circuit and that is what led to the deaths.” There was no violence on Monday night.
